A factual record of the 2026 leadership transition and the continuity work that prepared SDSUG for its next era.
Overview
In early 2026, the Sonoran Desert Security Users Group (SDSUG) entered an unexpected and time‑sensitive leadership transition. The announcement timeline was compressed, and the organization needed immediate continuity to ensure that long‑standing relationships, events, and community commitments remained intact. The transition window was measured in days, not months.
Why the Timeline Was Urgent
The leadership change was scheduled to be announced that Sunday. Administrative access to the legacy website was granted late Friday afternoon. Because the legacy site lacked the structure needed to support the organization going forward, the initial modernization sprint had to be completed over the weekend to ensure SDSUG remained stable, visible, and prepared for its next chapter.

Volunteer Coordination Under Short Notice
Our webmaster, a long‑time volunteer who had no advance notice of the transition, granted access on trust and contributed essential pages during this period. With only a weekend to prepare, it would have been unrealistic to place the full burden of a complete rebuild on a volunteer with no context or preparation time. The modernization work was completed collaboratively, with each person contributing what was feasible under the circumstances.
Our incoming Vice President also learned of the transition only days before the announcement and stepped in immediately with professionalism and commitment.
Why the Modernization Was Completed by the Incoming President
Given the compressed timeline, the need for continuity, and the volunteer nature of the webmaster role, the initial 25 pages of the new site were completed by the incoming President with artificial intelligence (AI) assistance. This ensured that SDSUG had a functional, modern, and stable foundation ready for the public announcement and for the continuation of conference partnerships and community engagement.
Clarifying the Webmaster’s Role During the Transition
It is important to clarify the role of our volunteer webmaster during the 2026 transition. The leadership change was communicated on extremely short notice, and he had no advance knowledge that a transition was occurring. The first time he learned of the situation was when the incoming President contacted him directly. He had never met her before and had no context for the urgency or the timeline.
Despite this, he granted administrative access on trust alone and contributed essential pages during the weekend modernization sprint. Because the transition window was measured in days and the announcement was already scheduled, it would have been unrealistic and unfair to place the full burden of a complete rebuild on a volunteer who had no preparation time and no prior notice.
His work was timely, professional, and deeply appreciated. The rapid modernization was not a reflection of his availability or willingness, but of the compressed timeline and the need to stabilize the organization immediately.
Stewardship and Succession
The modernization work was not about centralizing authority. It was about creating a foundation that could be handed off cleanly. The intention from the beginning has been stewardship — protecting continuity, documenting the organization’s history, and preparing future leaders to inherit a stable and well‑structured SDSUG.
Preserving SDSUG’s Legacy
SDSUG’s first 25 years were never fully documented online. As part of the transition, efforts began to gather historical artifacts, preserve the group’s origins, and create a clear institutional record. This work is ongoing, and volunteers who care about the community are invited to participate in shaping SDSUG’s next era.
